Funny thing about psyduck and golduck from bulbapedia; psyduck's name is supposed to reference psychic powers which can be seen in psyduck's learnset as it learns several psychic type moves and golduck's name is supposed to reference gold as gold is used to symbolize psychic abilities, which is why Sabrina's gym badge is called the gold badge in Japanese and why psychic pokemon like the gold gummi in pokemon mystery dungeon. I don't know why they didn't make psyduck and golduck water/psychic types though. Also Golduck's Japanese name is also Golduck while Psyduck's Japanese name is Koduck.

I needed this. Hilarious to see someone who's still devout to Pokemon admit that there's a lot of frivolity, goofiness, and simplicity in it all. I never did quite understand the fascination, so this was very grounding for me hahaha! Then again, I guess the same could be said for Smurfs or CareBears or Rainbow Brite? No, no… I take that back. Those all made perfect sense. LOL 🙂
