THE TRUTH ABOUT INFLUENCER MARKETING (from a marketer-turned-influencer)

Hey friends. Today I’m sharing the ins and outs and things no one talks about from BOTH sides of the influencer marketing space. I’ve been a digital marketer for 8 years and an influencer on this channel since 2014, and I’ve seen the industry change a lot. I’m excited to address some rumors, dispel some common assumptions, talk about how YouTube pays me and how much, and show you how to spot an account that’s buying all their followers – sNeAkY.

  1. Google adsense for our website, is like a fraction of a penny per visit. I still haven't hit the 100$ mark that google takes from me as a fee in 2 years 🤦‍♀️

  2. A lot of this stuff is why I stopped beauty blogging, it felt like if I didn't conform to the growing trends, I was excluded from the brands that used to support me. I really do miss the genuine good old days 🙂

  3. This was an awesome video. Period. You made so many great points and I love your honesty! It makes me sad that people think it is ok to be cruel to people over the internet. (Even though I know that's been a part of the internet from its inception, that doesn't make me any less sad about it.) I always try to treat people how I want to be treated. Maybe even a little better hahaha! <3

  4. Anyone else curious about the brand that dared to talk to our beloved Kackie that way? 👀☕

  5. i most def watch your videos with my
    two year old 😂

  6. Thanks from a mom for keeping the language pg! My kids know you, even when they just hear your voice they say, “Mom is Kackie here? Did she come over?”😂

  7. I might be jumping the gun because I’m early into the video but I’ve wondered, do YouTubers benefit from Premium user viewers since that experience is ad-free?

  8. My father in law had a roommate who had a business that sold followers. He had no qualms about it and was like, everyone does it. Must have been 2015ish. It shocked me at the time, but not anymore.

Love the video. It’s interesting to hear from influencers about what goes on.

  9. Hahahhaha i'm with you on the rant about clean Beauty (the dr one) happy to have found your channel. Your honesty, aesthetic and content is what i'm all about, so thank you ✨

  10. I love you enough to make a dedicated effort to watch at least 15secs on the videos on your ads😊😉

  11. I literally just watched this entire video and I love your blatant honesty as per usual #firesignpower

  12. I love your honesty so much and will only buy things for my face that you recommend! Seriously! Aaaaan, I’ll be watching those ads just fo you! 😂❤️

  13. “Give a diddle about” LOL, I love you! I appreciate the way you approach your influencing. I think you kind of touched on this but one of the intangibles that’s hard to capture is that people are drawn to watch people whose personality matches theirs and that might not match dollars spent. For example, I have watched several people and by all reason I should be their demographic and I buy the kind of products they promote, but I would actually go out of my way to not buy it around the time of their promotion because I can’t stand the influencer.
I enjoy listening to you and listening to your stories. What you represent to me is a more organic approach to influencing and it’s far more genuine than some I see. Also, I will power through these ads from now on!

  14. There is a mineral fusion sale on vitacost if you are looking to test out more of their brand!!

  15. I enjoy your videos, slowing down on how fast you give information. I kinda of do the same thing so in no way is it me being negative.

  16. Suddenly very conscious about my ad skipping

  17. Thanks for making this video! I learned a lot from it including where I can improve as a subscriber/viewer. I admit I write novels in comments section sometimes, but it's usually to present another argument when the feedback is mainly full of one sided criticism. Doesn't justify it. Thanks again for indirectly reminding me I have options how I respond online. And I 100% don't understand the point of bombarding someone's channel when we have the option to simply leave and watch something else.

  18. HELP PLEASE 🙂 I pre-ordered a large salt pallet filled with exciting cream colors and I did not even "give" you credit Kackie!!!! The only reason I ordered it was because of you and your recommendation for KiKi's channel and the pallet… I want to fix it and use an affiliate link, is it even possible?? Goodness I'm glad you made this video. I feel better educated on how to properly spend my "consumer currency" as in showing a brand that I care about the recommendation of those whose opinion I seek out and value!! XOXO

I dont think i've ever watched a video this long but i'm here for it!
I hope my cpm or whatever counts even though i paused half way through and started watching again hours later
I just enjoy content from my favorite creators and i appreciate them and yes i will use your affiliate links and I just want everyone to succeed and be happy

  20. I love that you say stuff!

  21. Thank you for a great video very informative and good points that you brought up!! Love you Kackie 😀

Kackie, thank you for an excellent video. As a new ( micro youtuber) I am only spend money lol, I’ve made $2.70 cents ha ha. I’ve spent like $6000 in set up stuff and products… and this is my hobby! I work full time as a nurse.

  23. Great video! Good to hear from someone with a wider view on how this all works on all sides. Also, good to know that the first 15 seconds of an ad give the creator credit, because at this point I’ve let so many ads play out completely that I’ve tripped some special YouTube algorithm where they now want to show me eight minute ads. I recently got one for construction site drainage systems. 😂

  24. Loved this video! Can't wait to see the "faves that failed" one!

You are saying all the things that are happening to me now lol! But fortunately I know that this is something I want to do, not have to do & I am truly trying to help people make better buying decisions for themselves. The lighting, sound, editing will be better incrementally as I can invest in better things. That does take the pressure off of me, because I’m good with staying small. I just want a small group of loyal followers. I’m also not looking for an income stream. I would not mind some PR though 🥰Thank you for this video.

  26. I totally feel you on the leaving jobs/working for yourself thing. I worked from ages 15-21 for other people and I was SO. FUCKING. MISERABLE. I felt like something was wrong with me bc I couldn't be happy at a "normal" job like everyone I knew. Ever since I started working for myself my mental health has been so much better. It makes me feel less alone hearing someone struggle with the same thing!

  27. This Hair though… I love how you are embracing (?) your hair recently! I really felt how you said in a recent video how some people have ugly natural hair. ME.
HOWEVER!… I too have been letting my hair loose lately, after Years of covering it with hats and hair scarves.
Also, these companies are HILARIOUS, and by hilarious I mean, PRESUMPTUOUS. Giving influencers their due isn't a new concept anymore, and shouldn't be such a foreign idea for brands. People know their worth. And that's GOOD. It's a job for a lot of people, so it's fascinating brands are still trying to pull the wool over creators' eyes. Noooooope. Way to go for calling them out!

  28. Thank you for talking about these things!

  29. The data nerd in me was geeking out the whole time 😂 honestly this is one of the most informative videos I have seen in the recent trend of transparency in YouTube. Thanks for doing the research and sharing the knowledge!

  30. Could you please just blow your nose off camera? You keep picking your nose and it's so unpleasant 🙁 I appreciate this video so much, tried so hard to ignore it, but it's so many times!

  31. I hate people that get paid to promote products, especially if they are crap and waste of money . I just want truth . Hate wasting money on anything that doesn’t work

Wait… But if I subscribe to YouTube premium, does that mean you don't get paid for it because I never watch ads?! IDK how that works 😭 I'd hate to not be able to support you even a miniscule amount through that 😭

  34. Your intelligence is showing! Obviously in the best way possible 😄 Thank you for breaking down something so complex to the rest of us. I hope your “brand” of influencer becomes more prevalent in our community in the years to come!!! You’re truly a breath of fresh air

  35. Just saw you in a Thrive ad for their cleanser! So awesome 🎉

  36. I have so much respect for you and your channel! Thanks for being honest and sharing your view on things.

  37. You are a smart cookie. I like that, and your makeup looks gorgeous too. 😉

  38. Completely OT but I don’t see any nail product videos in your uploads. Do you have any suggestions for youtubers or sites to visit for clean nail products? Or maybe you have something and I’m missing it? Clean beauty is my jam but darn if most nail products don’t contain more chemicals than you can shake a stick at! Thanks! Love you a hundred and am off to buy some Kackie merch!

I need to be better at having that back and forth with brands on concepts for posts (with my blog, just starting in YouTube) Thank you for this video, lots of great information

  41. New subscriber here. I just wanted to say that I really like your videos. 🙂

  42. I've been watching the ads for everyone after watching this vid! Thanks for helping me understand it more. I do wonder how it works for longer vids…. 15-30 second ads are no biggie but when it gets to 2 mins or longer, how does that affect what you earn or how long does watching it affect you? Cuz I'd like to help but some ads are soooooo long. I saw one that was 5 mins. I'm like….uhhhh I could watch this for 30 secs…

  43. As a marketer, I'm trying to break into digital marketing and understand analytics better, so this video was super helpful! Would love to hear more about SEO and digital marketing while watching you put makeup on. 😊

Ha, 30%. In the Netherlands everyone pays 37,75% taxes when you make below 68.000 euros a year, above that you pay 52% tax on your income. And then we have taxes for water, trash, owning a dog, using the roads etc!

  45. This video is for creators and viewers. Period. I have watched at least 15 vids YouTuber and other creatives have made addressing this and never has one been so honest and comprehensive. I don’t agree, from only an avid viewers POV; about all the declarations made but nonetheless all accurate. Thanks girl!
